If you live in South Florida, hurricane-impact sliding doors are either already required (most new construction since 2002) or strongly advised. They eliminate the need to shutter every storm, qualify for substantial insurance discounts, and dramatically improve home security and sound insulation.
We do two things on impact doors: repair (rollers, tracks, locks, hardware on existing doors) and full replacement (removing old non-impact sliders and installing code-compliant impact units). Both require working with much heavier glass β a single impact panel can weigh 250 to 400 pounds β and brand-specific hardware.
Brands we install and repair
We service every major hurricane-impact slider brand sold in Florida and install three of them as authorized contractors:
- PGT WinGuard / Eze-Breeze β Florida's most widely-installed impact slider; we install and stock all common parts
- CGI Sentinel / Targa β high-performance and architectural lines; we install and service
- Andersen Stormwatch / A-Series β premium impact line; service and full install
- Pella Hurricane Shield β service, parts, and replacement
- ES Windows, Eastern, Custom Window Systems β service and parts
- Older brands (no longer made): we can usually source replacement parts via OEM and aftermarket networks
Repair on existing impact doors
Most impact-door service calls are rollers, tracks, locks, or hardware. The work is similar to a standard slider but with three big differences: panels weigh nearly twice as much, the rollers and tracks are heavier-gauge, and the locks are typically multi-point hook locks instead of single-point latches. We carry impact-specific hardware on the truck.
Common impact-door repairs we handle: roller replacement (tandem heavy-duty), track repair and capping, hook-lock cartridges, handle sets, broken interior laminated glass interlayer, and frame realignment after settling.
Full impact-door installation
When you're ready to replace a non-impact slider with a code-compliant impact unit, we handle the full project: measurement and quoting, permit application with your municipality, ordering the new door (5-8 week lead time for custom sizes), removal of the existing door, installation, sealing, finishing, and the final permit inspection.
Every install meets current Florida Building Code for wind resistance and impact protection, including the Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance for HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone) areas. We provide all paperwork your insurance company will want.
Insurance discounts after install
After installation, you can get a wind-mitigation inspection done (we recommend a third-party inspector for objectivity), submit it to your homeowner's insurance, and most carriers will discount your premium 15-40% in South Florida. For an average home, that's $400-$1,500 a year. Over 10 years, that often covers a significant chunk of the install cost.
π‘ Quick Tip from Our Techs
Don't skip the permit on an impact-door install. Unpermitted work shows up on title searches when you sell, can void your insurance discount, and Florida code now requires it on any opening rated for wind-borne debris protection.
