Sliding screen doors get more abuse than any other moving part of a Florida home. Pets push through them, kids run into them, wind catches them, and after a few years, the mesh tears, the rollers fail, and the frame bends. We fix all of it β fast and affordably.
Most screen door jobs are under $200 and done in well under an hour. We re-screen with standard fiberglass, pet-resistant mesh (much harder for paws and claws to damage), no-see-um fine mesh, or solar/sun-blocking mesh that cuts heat from western-exposure doors.
What we repair on screen doors
- Re-screen β replace the mesh; the most common job, takes 30-45 minutes
- Replace rollers β screen-door rollers are smaller and fail faster than slider rollers; we carry replacements
- Replace handle and latch β broken pull tabs and latches
- Straighten or replace the frame β bent aluminum frames from wind, pets, or impact
- Replace the door entirely β for damaged-beyond-repair frames
Choosing the right mesh
Standard charcoal fiberglass mesh is what most homes ship with β it works fine for keeping bugs out, but it's the weakest option. Better choices for South Florida:
- Pet-resistant mesh (PetScreen, etc.) β 7x stronger than standard fiberglass; resists cats and small dogs
- Heavy-duty aluminum mesh β even tougher; we recommend for homes with large dogs
- Solar / sun-blocking mesh β blocks 70-90% of UV and reduces interior temperature on western-exposure rooms by 5-10Β°F
- No-see-um mesh β extra-fine weave that keeps out tiny biting flies and gnats common near canals and the Glades
- Hurricane / impact screen β for screen-only rooms, can be rated for storm winds
When to repair vs replace the screen door
If the frame is straight, the rollers are still good, and only the mesh is torn β repair (re-screen) is the right call at $79-$149. If the frame is bent badly enough that it doesn't slide smoothly, or the rollers are shot AND the mesh is torn AND the handle is broken, sometimes replacement is cheaper. New replacement screen doors run $179-$299 installed, vs $200+ in piecemeal repairs.
π‘ Quick Tip from Our Techs
Wash your screens twice a year with a gentle hose spray and mild soap. Florida pollen and salt mist build up on the mesh, reduce airflow, and shorten its life. A clean screen lasts 2-3 times longer than a neglected one.
